All the FAQ answers are considered challenge rules!
I missed the deadline can I still submit a car?
Yes! You can continue to submit vehicles for as long as the challenge has interested parties. We will continue to test the vehicles for as long as possible! We want you to submit the best work you can, don’t rush it and good luck!
Left-Hand Drive or Right-Hand Drive
Left-Hand Drive! Despite the majority of the team not being American we have based our story on the American car market. Therefore, as your vehicle will be produced for this market it will need the steering wheel on the left!
Do I need lore?
We will require a brief lore submission (100 Words) as well as submission of all vehicles of that stage in a ‘group photo’. We will also require that you use only marques you have registered or one of the ‘Free-Marques’ available in the MSG.
Game Bugs and Exploits?
We will not allow any breaking of game functions in order to create vehicles. Body and trim years and function must match accurately to the years. We will however allow you to use Advanced Trim Settings and it will be up to the judges of the category to arbitrate the limits on any dubious creations.
My vehicle spontaneously combusts in BeamNG.drive
We don’t really like this. Doing so will mean you fail the Bump Test on that speed. It also may mean a failure to record a lap time and you may be disqualified or heavily penalised if the vehicle suffers damage from this.
Do I really need an interior?
Our challenge requires, within reason, that vehicles have a mostly appropriate and adequate interior representing their automation configurations. Although we will be lenient with say labeling the oil pressure gauge, we won’t excuse things missing like seat belts or a hazard warning switch. We will be strongly critical of missing or unfinished interiors, and they will not qualify for grading.
Are mods allowed?
No, our challenge does not allow the use of mods or DLC content. Partly because because we believe that these restrictions will generate the fairest and most stable challenge. Having discussed this internally the position is solidly unanimous that mods may add an element of instability counter to the vision of the challenge. We will be looking in the future to add limited support for mods so long as we have a solid working relationship with the individual workshop mod creators.
Can I use quality sliders?
Yes! Although restrictive, the challenge aims to give you some creative freedom in our dystopic universe of ‘funny engineering’ and alt-history. We want you to push the limits on the things you can make work and make sense. Yes, we do have a sense of humour even if it might not seem like it…
Can I build a real life car?
No! We want you to be as original as you can. Of course, drawing design language from real vehicles helps reinforce the sense of realness of a vehicle, however creating replica cars is not the aim of the game. Vehicles which lack originality will be penalised by the judges. We also expect vehicles submitted not to use trademarked and copyrighted extant names already in the car market.
When will I recieve my testing results?
Assuming you qualify, your testing results shall be published here as soon as possible. Here you will be able to see how your vehicle performs against others.
Techpools and Sandbox?
Set your Sandbox Techpool for all to 0. This will be the only value that is accepted or create a manufacturer with 0 Tech. You must set your Manufacturer tech year to 1990s.
How many times can I submit?
All manufacturers going through the submission form can submit any vehicle of a stage three times a month. The most updated vehicle will be the one tested. You may be banned from competition if more are submitted. It is best therefore to submit your vehicle closer to the performance or full stage testing dates.
Patch changed my car, Help!
The game will update frequently as we will continue building our vehicles. As such you will be asked whether or not certain engine aspects of your vehicle are edited before testing on the form to bring it into spec.
What version of the game?
We will only accept submissions made in a genuine copy of the Ellisbury Update version of the game, updated to the latest edition, noted in the homepage footnotes. Any vehicles made in other versions will not qualify to be tested.
Trim year? Model Year?
We will now be accepting cars of model years up to 5 years older, so long as the trim year is of that set in the brief. For example a challenge trim set in 1997 can have its Model Year set in 1992. The Trim year MUST be set to the challenge year however. Engine Family and Variant must be of the year of the car so in the example case it would have to all be set to 1997. Vehicles will be judged historically as vehicles being built from any date from the start of that year till the last day of that year. As such vehicle styles may be of the year after. A vehicle with a trim year 1997 can be judged to therefore have the style of a vehicle from the beginning of 1992 (with some updates) until the beginning of 1998.
